BOOK REVIEW: Youth Companion: Some Typologies
Johnsmart Ezenwankwor
Abstract
To those familiar with Bishop Hilary Nanman Dachelem, the work, Youth Companion: Some
Typologies, is long overdue. This is because, the history of his priestly duties whose major highlights
were highly visible in his duties as seminary and Claretian econome to parish works, have been
adorned with dense attention to youth development. As a result of his enormous interest towards
youth development during the early years of his ordination, particularly within the periods he worked
as Claretian econome, he gathered a lot of young men and women for meaningful engagements rather
than idling at home or walking round the streets in the name of looking for admissions to various high
institutions of learning or searching for jobs that were not readily available. His efforts birthed the
strong musical group known as Claret Singers which today, has metamorphosed into different popular
and most sought-after music groups. This level of development among the members of Claret Singers
was possible, thanks to his further support while working as a parish priest at St Maria Goretti
Catholic Parish Owerri and in Shendam diocese.
