Use of Social Scientific Analysis in Biblical Interpretation

Luke Emehiele Ijezie

Abstract

From the outset, it is important to underscore the point that the subject under discussion here, namely, ‘biblical interpretation’ is to be understood in the sense of scientific, or better, an expert’s interpretation of the bible. Therefore, the focus of this paper is not the kind of popular reading a nd misreading of biblical texts as practiced by self-styled churches. An expert-interpretation that makes use of social-scientific analysis is one that presents itself in many models. The models are explained and applied in some contexts in exposition below. It is therefore important to discover which model is at play in any interpretation and how appropriate it is used or applied.
